Quinoa, a flowering plant that originated in South America thousands of years ago, produces delicious seeds that are rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber.

Quinoa is used as a model system for understanding plant resilience to environmental and climate stress and could be very important crop to ensure our global food security

The magenta and blue colored Quinoa pollen grain was imaged with a “super-resolution” microscope ( a Nobel Prize winning technology) to learn how high temperatures effected their formation.

This work was part of a collaboration between Dr. Jose Tovar and the Dr. Malia Gehan Lab with Dr. Anastasiya Klebanovych and Dr. Kirk Czymmek in the Advanced Bioimaging Laboratory at the Danforth Center
